Are you a fan of original boxer shorts but a novice when it comes to dirty laundry? Trust our 5 best tips for maintaining and caring for your favorite underwear at home.

By following these tips, you can preserve the color and quality of your boxers for a long time, so you can wear them every week with the same pleasure as the first day.

Tip #1: Sort your laundry

It all starts with your dirty laundry basket. Some clothes are likely to fade in the washing machine, or even transfer color to others, hence the importance of identifying the "at risk" items before washing your laundry.

For example, try the cotton swab test: dip the end of a cotton swab into a glass of hot water, then rub it on the edge of the garment or underwear to be tested. If the cotton swab turns color, then the color of the textile is not yet fixed and can wreak havoc in your washing machine.

Don't hesitate to try this trick on your original and colorful boxers after purchase for added security. Of course, separate them from your white clothes and boxers in the washing machine to avoid any disaster.

Tip #2: Learn to read the labels on your boxers

Too often overlooked, clothing and underwear labels offer valuable advice on how to clean each textile without ruining it.

The symbols on these labels give you all the washing instructions you need to follow to preserve the color and quality of your original boxers, depending on the materials they're made from. Take 5 minutes to understand each symbol before you start your colored laundry.

When in doubt, wash cold with a cycle of 30°C or 40°C maximum to better protect the pigments in your printed underwear. Consult our article dedicated to the care and washing of boxers to learn more about the correct steps to take.

Tip #3: Put an anti-fading cloth in the machine

The statistics are clear: the anti-fading wipe has saved many clothes and underwear from disaster!

By sorting your laundry and slipping a transfer-proof cloth into the drum of your machine, you can now have peace of mind with every wash: even if your original boxers have rainbow patterns, they won't rub off on your favorite red sweater or your favorite khaki pants.

Tip #4: Choose the right detergent

With compositions adapted to specific materials or colors, certain detergents effectively protect your original boxers from premature wear.

Liquid detergents are formulated without bleaching agents, unlike powder detergents. Detergents for black and dark laundry even contain color-protecting agents. In short, it's easy to find a detergent that's suitable for caring for your colored underwear.

Bonus tip: After the very first machine wash of your new boxers, rinse them in 1 L of water with household vinegar and a sugar cube, then rinse them again in clean water to protect their color from fading.

Tip #5: Manage the drying and ironing of your original boxers

Finally, it's time to dry and iron your colored clothes and underwear. Limit your use of the dryer to avoid fading the color of your clothes due to the heat. So, air dry your original boxers inside out for maximum protection.

The best news is for last: your original boxers don't normally need to be ironed after a wash. If you absolutely must remove wrinkles, iron them inside out to preserve their colorful patterns.
